“Was It Worth It?” Former Razz YTT Students Share Their Experience
With our 200hr Teacher Training set to start next month, you may have a few questions on what to expect—and whether or not it’s the right step for you. Due to these questions, we wanted to share with you experiences from previous teacher training graduates from the Razz program!
Q: What made you decide to sign up for Razz’s 200hr teacher training?
A1: I wanted to deepen my practice and learn more about yoga. My intention was not to teach when signing up. I chose Razz due to its convenient location and already really liked the studio.
A2: I decided to do this training because I had been practicing yoga for over a decade, and as a wellness professional, I decided I wanted to add teaching yoga to my skill set. I liked the comfort of the studio, the authenticity of the program. It was important to me to be somewhere that valued the individual.
Q: What was your experience like during the training?
A1: I enjoyed the diversity of topics and the connections made with the other students. I appreciated the overall demeanor and teaching style of our main instructor Lisa. All of the guest teachers were also amazing. Taking the teacher training at Razz was life changing for me.
A2: Overall, it was everything I hoped for. The guidance from the teachers was always exceptional, the information always presented in an easy to grasp way. Even the “homework” was enjoyable and thought provoking in the best ways. I made wonderful friends with the other students, and we truly became a family celebrating each other’s differences and successes. My yoga and personal growth were equally supported and I experienced growth in both areas. One time they didn’t have the tea I wanted during a break, but I can’t think of anything else less than positive to say.
Q: What was your favorite part of your training experience?
A1: Making connections with other students and hearing about their experiences. I really enjoyed all of the books we read and come back to them again and again.
A2: The connections I made with the teachers and students, and learning to see how much my yoga practice and personal life can reflect one another.
Q: What is one piece of advice you received during your training that has stuck with you?
A1: To remember the different audiences in each yoga class - the athlete, the artist, etc.
A2: Teach what you know and your style, however you are comfortable teaching. Never stop being a student.
Q: What was your next step after you graduated? Have you started teaching? Have you taken another teacher training?
A1: I started teaching only because an instructor at another studio asked me to sub at her studio. Teaching yoga put me outside of my comfort zone and felt like a challenge so I pursued it. I also enjoyed teaching more than I thought I would.
A2: Yes, I’ve taught almost 500 hrs of classes since then at gyms, studios, and privately. I immediately started a 300-hr YTT a month after finishing my 200-hr and am now in the advanced 800-hr program at the same school to become an Ayurvedic health counselor and yoga therapist.
Q: If you teach, are there elements you learned from your Razz teachers that you implement in your own classes?
A1: Yes, I try to offer something for all of the different audiences but that’s always a work in progress. The session on pregnant women was also helpful and I’ve gone back to those specific notes over the years.
A2: Each teacher was just so full of experience and personal growth teaching and practicing yoga. Just picking up their energy and ability to communicate different aspects of yoga was so helpful for me to find my own teaching style. Sequencing, cueing, and relating to a class are skills I definitely gained from the experience.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?
A1: I love Razz!!! Thank you Heather for creating our amazing community.
A2: The positive experience I had at Razz encouraged me to continue pursuing more education and training and feels like a moment of my life that I will always come back to as a difference maker in the best of ways.
